Olowalu Plantation House Wedding With Matt + Emily

Olowalu Plantation House Wedding Couple

Today I’m sharing an Olowalu Plantation House wedding that was so much fun – definitely a highlight of my career!

What makes a great wedding? Everybody has certain things they look for in celebrations: a scenic venue, an all-night dance party, incredible decor, or fantastic food and drink. But at the end of the day, it’s all about a couple's connection – that loving bond that will carry them throughout their life. All the other stuff is just icing on the cake.

Matt and Emily have that bond – an incredible love story worthy of a grand celebration, a connection bigger than words.

But their Maui wedding also had every single element that makes an event remarkable. Olowalu Plantation House is one of the prettiest venues, and Matt and Emily selected every detail with care. They put a lot of heart into planning their wedding so that when the day came, they were free to enjoy.

And boy, did they enjoy it! Take a look at their wedding film, then read on to learn how they created such a memorable day and how No Ka  'Oi Films captured it all.

Choosing a Destination Wedding In Hawaii

Long before Matt and Emily stepped foot upon the lush, tropical grounds of Olowalu Plantation House, they made a very important decision. Well, two important decisions.

First, they decided to marry each other – a natural choice for this perfect match.

And then they decided to have a destination wedding in Maui. They’re an adventurous couple who loves to travel, and they visited the island a lot growing up. Now was their chance to share their favorite place with their favorite people.

The Venue: Olowalu Plantation House

The Olowalu Plantation House is one of my favorite places on the island, and I’m always thrilled to be a Maui Wedding Videographer there. Here are some of the reasons why this is one of my favorite Hawaii wedding venues:

  • It is oceanfront and feels very private & quiet.

  • You have access to the inside of the house, so both partners can get ready separately onsite.

  • From the inviting front porch to the expansive lawn, it gives the feeling of having an intimate backyard wedding right by the ocean.

  • Its location near Lahaina allows it to have typically calm, clear conditions.

  • It’s a dream for photographers and videographers – there are so many great places for scenic, unique shots.

Exchanging Vows at a Hawaii Destination Wedding Ceremony
Getting married on the ocean under palm trees is a destination dream come true, and Olowalu does not disappoint. We loved the feel of the entire property, almost like you’re at someone’s cozy backyard home that just happens to be perfectly placed right next to the ocean.

The Icing On the Cake

So Emily and Matt have an incredible connection, and they’ve decided on a Destination Wedding at Olowalu Plantation House in Maui. Now it’s time for all the other details to come together – the show-stopping elements that bring it all together for one memorable and beautiful event.

Their flowers from Dellables accented the venue’s natural beauty perfectly, and it tied their ceremony and reception together in a breezy yet thoughtful way. Garnish created craft cocktails that elevated the entire celebration. And Miss B Calligraphy provided the unique signage that had guests gathering around the welcome table in awe.

And it was all expertly coordinated by Food for the Soul Maui, who also provided incredible catering and helped the day go off without a hitch.

The Film

As Emily and Matt’s Maui wedding videographer, I aimed to create a film that would transport them back to their wedding day again and again. Of course, I wanted to capture all the great details they’d put together, but what I really wanted to focus on was the heart of their day – the small moments with their guests, the romantic spirit they carried, the timeless magic of being in a special place with special people.

What most inspired me as their filmmaker was when I realized Emily and Matt were surrounded by the world’s best beauty – a Maui sunset by the water – but they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other.

“happy, confident, and present in the moment”

I mostly film Hawaii Destination Weddings, so couples have returned home by the time they receive their final wedding film. But Emily and Matt gave me an incredible gift: the chance to see their reaction as they watched their film for the first time. Click here to laugh and cry with this amazing couple.

I’m so glad they loved it, and watching them tear up and laugh along with the movie was an emotional high for me. And now that they’ve had their video for a while, it was time to ask the ultimate question: was it worth it?

We had convinced ourselves we didn’t need video in an attempt to help budgeting, but then I found No Ka Oi and very quickly convinced myself that we couldn’t go without it. I am SO happy with that decision - video captures the life, the laughter, the sound, and the overall essence of your wedding day in a way photos just can’t… I would want any future/potential couples to know that Caleb is a joy to have present on your wedding day! That felt important to us, having a team of vendors that you get along with and are ultimately happy to have nearby during one of the biggest celebrations of your life. Caleb is just that, he doesn’t over direct and honestly just hypes you up all day so you’re able to stay happy, confident, and present in the moment!
